KUALA LUMPUR: The much-awaited announcement on the 20 high performance schools has been put off until further notice.
Hopeful headmasters and teachers who came by the bus-loads learnt that Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who was to make the announcement, could not attend the ceremony at SMK Aminuddin Baki, Jalan Kampung Pandan.
Muhyiddin, who is Education Minister, was in Johor to attend the funeral of Sultan Iskandar Ibni Almarhum Sultan Ismail who passed away on Friday.
Education director-general Tan Sri Datuk Alimuddin Mohd Dom was present at the event and congratulated headmasters and teachers who were at the event on their school’s achievements.
“I think all schools are good. Even the schools in Sabah and Sarawak have achieved so much, and their academic achievements are no less than those of students in the Klang Valley,” he said.
He said it was important for students to have a strong bond with their teachers and parents, as a parent’s interest in their child’s education progress was important.
Alimuddin said the ministry would set a suitable date in the near future for the official announcement to be made.
The high performance schools were selected based on their overall management, academic performance, cleanliness, landscape and co-curricular programmes.
Once announced, these schools would also focus on their existing academic strengths, while their level of discipline and competency in certain fields would also get special attention.
