Festive gathering: Kamalanathan (seventh from right) poses for a group photo with Negri Sembilan state education department officials and district education officers at a Hari Raya celebration.
He said this was in line with the circular issued in 2000 which asked the PPDs and school heads to monitor all facilities to avoid tragedies among their staff and students.
“My advice is that they should observe the instructions in the circular. It applies to all facilities in the schools, not just sports equipment.
“I also want to convey my condolences to the family of the deceased,” he told reporters in Seremban on Thursday.
Kamalanathan was commenting on the death of a Form Two student from SMK Tengku Indera Petra 2 in Kelantan after he was hit by a falling goal post while playing football at the school field last Tuesday.
Nik Mohamad Lutfi Kamarudin, 14, died after he suffered serious injury to his head in the incident at about 9am.
Kamalanathan said it was the responsibility of the schools and district education officers to inform the ministry if there were any broken or old equipment which needed to be replaced.
“At the same time, the schools must use the existing channels to request for allocation for repairs and other matters,” he said.
“We also have special allocation for disasters,” he said.
Earlier, in his speech at a Hari Raya gathering with about 50 staff of the Negri Sembilan State Education Department and PPDs, he stressed the importance of cooperation and close ties between the state education department, PPD and ministry. — Bernama
