KARAK: A quarter of the country’s Budget is set aside for education – a testimony to the Barisan Nasional Government’s commitment to provide quality schooling for the people, said MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He said the Government was concerned about the development of education as this was the foundation to determine the quality of the country’s future leaders and human capital.
Every year, the Education Ministry would get the biggest portion of the Budget, he said.
“We offer free schooling, give out subsidies for textbooks, food and others.
“So there should be no more excuses. I do not wish to hear anymore from parents that they can’t afford to send their children to school,” he told Felda settlers at SK LKTP Kemasul yesterday.
Liow, who is Bentong MP, was at the school to open its annual Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting.
He called on teachers to come up with more lively and interactive teaching methods to boost students’ interest in learning.
Earlier, Liow also opened the annual PTA meetings of SMK Karak Setia here and SK Pelangai in Kampung Jawi Jawi.
He presented awards and prizes to students who had done well in studies and sports at the three schools.
The Transport Minister also reminded the villagers to adhere to traffic regulations – wear helmet when riding a motorcycle and buckle up when travelling in a car.
