Students who did not do well in SPM, STPM urged to take up skills courses

ALOR STAR, March 9 (Bernama) – Students who did not do well in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) examinations should take up skills courses, said Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

He said early exposure to teachers and counseling teachers was necessary to ensure that the students receive full information on skills certificates before working in a particular field.

“They can study for certificates in the construction and automotive industries, culinary arts and hospitality. After graduation, they can draw a monthly salary of about RM2,000 which is comparable to those who possess degrees.

“We have to hold more carnivals for SPM and STPM students in rural areas to give them a clear picture of how to succeed in life,” he told reporters at the ‘Hala Tuju Lepasan SPM dan STPM’ career carnival here today.

‘Karnival Hala Tuju Pelajar Lepasan SPM dan STPM’ organised by Padang Terap Umno division was participated by 22 universities, colleges and skills centres. — Bernama
